Ch. de Laubade Armagnac - 1974 750 mL bottle 40% ABV

his 1974 Armagnac is considered one of the best ever, due to the outstanding weather that year. Chateau de Laubade has long been recognized as the world leader in premium Armagnac, since their grapes grow solely in the Bas Armagnac terrior.
Armagnac is located in Gascony, in a triangle between Bordeaux, Toulouse and the Pyrénées mountains. It is divided into three sub areas: Bas Armagnac, Ténareze and Haut-Armagnac. The Bas Armagnac is considered to offer the best soil and growing conditions, producing very rich and unctuous brandies. Chateau de Laubade is located in the heart of the Bas Armagnac and is the largest single continuous vineyard estate (270 acres). Built in 1855, the Chateau de Laubade has been the property of the Lesgourges family for three generations.

The Armagnac of Chateau de Laubade 1974 Vintage is the result of the blending of the aged eaux-de-vie, created from the distillation of the wines from four different grapes of the Armagnac AOC, and all from the same harvest. Each varietal produced a low-alcohol, well-balanced white wine. The wines were distilled separately, just once, in the traditional Armagnac Alambic. The spirits obtained were originally between 60 and 68 % alcohol with no color.
Each distillation was aged separately in a Gascony black oak cask. And, since a respectable portion of the alcohol had evaporated over time through the barrels, almost no "petites-eaux" (a blend of Armagnac and distilled water) were needed to reach the 40% alcohol level; it was achieved naturally.

Please enjoy and appreciate this handcrafted old spirit. It intensifies any range of after-dinner selections, from a dark chocolate dessert to an embargoed cigar. The nose develops a mix of vanilla, hazelnut and plum flavors. In the mouth, it is full, rich, and spicy. The complexity and the balance are close to perfection. The finish is extremely long and pleasant.
